December 08 – A Waterfall and the Romantic Museum

Most of the group headed out on an excursion into the countryside.

The drive went along a bay with a derelict boat.

The destination was the Sendero Huellas de La Historia, the Footprints of History Trail.  It included a fairly rugged hike

along some streams and ponds,

to the highlight of the day, a waterfall…

with a pool for swimming.

Wasps nests seen along the trail.

An old cabin.

A Cuban Tody.

Mary, Marvin and Flo decided to skip the hike so stayed in town.

Tara had ordered picnic lunches for the day since there were no restaurants on the hike.  And the three who stayed behind had their picnic at the hotel.

Once the group came back to the hotel the laggards joined them for the rest of the sightseeing for the day.

We visited the Romantic Museum (also known as the Brunet Palace, named after a family that lived here).  The palace had a lovely central courtyard.

All the rooms were furnished with period furniture

and beautiful glassware.

There was a minimalist bathroom...

and a kitchen with beautiful tile.

This statue of Hercules is a bank (the money can be removed from the back end).

There was some interesting art in a shop in the museum.

Views of the bell tower at the Convent of St. Francis as seen from a window from the palace.
